Weekly Roundup
/Hey hey! It’s been a while since I’ve shared a Weekly Roundup. I’ve been in a bit of a creative rut recently while simultaneously only wanting to create things. I think I’m experiencing a mix of burnout and real life fatigue along with imposter syndrome and a touch of an identity crisis. I’ll figure it out, in time. I do enjoy rounding up inspiration from around the web, so here’s hoping that getting back into Weekly Roundups will give me a needed boost.
Speaking of creating things, I’ve gotten back into film photography - something I haven’t touched since art school. There’s something so refreshing about snapping just a few precious frames rather than going shutter crazy on digital photos. The magic of waiting to see what I captured and the charm of the quality of film is really energizing. I’ve been shooting on expired rolls so they come out a bit less than perfect, but therein lies the thrill!
Beata Herman’s Swedish Farmhouse is what dreams are made of. Seriously, a DREAM.
I’ve wanted to get my hands on this particular 1983 costume book for a couple of years and finally snagged it at the library. Here’s a peak inside - such gems! I still can’t decide what to do for our costumes this year, though.
Are you aware of which energy rebates you’re eligible to receive?
I’ve made this magic cake a couple times recently and it really is magical, and so simple. Here’s a similar recipe if you don’t want to reference the Instagram link.
I find myself going down Etsy rabbit holes and finding things I don’t have a home for, but just need to share in case someone else can use these cuties. Rainbow striped linen hand towel, pink check oversized dress, checkered boxy top, antique quilts, and minimal but colorful camera straps.
A no-sew gathered lampshade DIY that I’m definitely going to try - one day.
I got this electric mosquito swatter and it’s wild. I just wave it around where I know a mosquito roughly is, and it zaps them with a satisfying zing! Best money spent.
Tig Notaro has a new podcast and its just as lovely a comedic listen as her others.
Margot has outgrown the biggest sizes of sock shoes that she’s worn since she started walking. So, I’ve moved on to getting her these sneakers that have a wide toe box, flexible sole, and zero-drop. Best of all they don’t look like typical barefoot shoes.
California workers who cut countertops are dying of an incurable disease.
Christina Cleveland shared the best decision-making advice I've heard in a while: "Do the weirdest thing that feels right." Deciding between two wallpapers, go for the weirder of the two. Not sure what to order on the menu, get the weirdest thing that feels right.
I hear caregivers gaslighting kids every day at the playground, but that doesn’t make it right.
A California Home That Conjures ‘Little Women’ on Acid
I’ve been letting my kitchen counters get etches without worrying about each little imperfection. But some dough I sat out to rise left a pretty big mark that was bugging me. I got out my trusty marble etch remover and tackled a big portion of the counter and I’m so glad I did.
